Visits

Kindergarten
The students begin to develop a respect and appreciation
for museums and learn "proper museum manners". Through
observation, students are able to classify the museum collections
by using their senses.

First
Grade Discussion
with students will concentrate on animal and bird coverings and
habitats. Museum specimens will be viewed and selected. Specimens
will be made available for additional hands-on opportunities.

Second
Grade
Students will see, touch and compare different kinds of fossils
and discuss how they were formed (fossilization). Real and reproduction
fossils can be viewed, and selected specimens will be made available
for additional hands-on learning opportunities.

Third
Grade The
third grade experience includes two visits to the museum. Students
observe and discuss two diverse Indian groups: those
of the Plains and those of the Northwest Coast. While at the museum,
students consider the geography of each region, and compare food,
clothing and shelter.

Fourth
Grade The
fourth grade classes have an extended visit with three experiences
in one day. First, they role-play school as it was in the early
1900s, then go on an historic walking tour of downtown Puyallup.
After a sack lunch in the park, it's off to the Meeker Mansion for
a tour of the Victorian mansion of Ezra Meeker.

Fifth
Grade Students
will enter a fort and become active participants in daily fort activities.
Students will "purchase" necessities at a trading post,
cooperatively load a covered wagon, participate in games from the
1800s, create a spark by using flint and striker and have a "family
photo" taken in pioneer clothes.
